Helpful hints
Trees need a lot of water! If you turn off irrigation to an area with trees, you will either need to set up a drip line to the tree or hand water it at least once a week.
If you convert an irrigation zone to water-wise landscaping, be mindful the plants will have a higher water requirement while they are establishing. The following season, decrease the irrigation time as needed.
If you convert part of an irrigation zone to gravel, mulch or other hardscape, do not forget to cap any irrigation heads in that area.
Different vegetation types benefit from different irrigation options - i.e. drip irrigation is the most efficient irrigation option for trees, while high efficiency rotor heads are the best option for turf
