Beyond Lawn evaluations are holistic property assessments consisting of two parts that take approximately two hours in total, depending on the size of the property and the complexity of the irrigation system. Scroll down for more information.
What you receive with your evaluation:
Beyond Lawn evaluation costs:
*Some municipalities provide evaluations free of cost to their residents–check all the options when booking your evaluation
*Evaluations are all-or-nothing; you cannot elect to complete just the landscape part or just the irrigation part of the evaluation

Beyond Lawn representatives meet you at your property and walk the landscape with you to understand your goals, limitations, and priorities, and they use these to inform tailored recommendations for upgrades.
During the landscape portion, the evaluators work with homeowners to identify areas for improvement and recommend practices for enhancing the natural and aesthetic value of the property with an emphasis on:

During the irrigation part, evaluators assess the property’s irrigation system, looking for ways to improve the performance of the current configuration while highlighting opportunities for landscape conversion. This minimizes costs and gives homeowners the tools to ensure a successful landscape transformation. The irrigation part focuses on:

The Beyond Lawn report is a comprehensive conservation roadmap informed by the evaluation.
It includes:
The report gives property owners the tools and resources they need to make informed decisions about their landscape in order to reduce outdoor water use and improve the natural and aesthetic value of their homes and communities.

Having some familiarity with what you hope to accomplish is always a good starting point—but evaluations are a collaborative process. No formal preparation is necessary before your appointment, but please make sure that your irrigation is turned on!
As long as your irrigation is on and you have authorized Beyond Lawn staff to operate your system on your behalf, no controller experience is necessary (if encouraged!). Beyond Lawn staff are not liable for any issues that may occur as a consequence of operating the irrigation system.
No—if you have an irrigation system, evaluators must understand the system to make informed decisions about the best actions to take to improve efficiencies and reduce overall landscape water use.
While you may sign up for an evaluation without a permanent, in-ground irrigation system, you will not be eligible for all rebates. Often, a consultative site visit may be a better option. Call (970) 236-1165 or email beyondlawn@eccdistrict.org to learn more.
Beyond Lawn DOES NOT PROVIDE contracting or labor services at this time—the evaluation is a consultative service to help with understanding and planning waterwise landscape transformations and irrigation efficiency upgrades.
Evaluations and reports come with a curated plant list and site maps with corresponding plant templates to help property owners make informed choices when choosing their plantings. As plant material availability is highly variable, homeowners are given options but must source and choose plants themselves or with the help of hired professionals.
You do not have to be a landowner to get an evaluation, but you do need to demonstrate support from the landowner to complete the evaluation and do any subsequent work. Please reach out if with questions if you are a renter interested in participating in the program!
Evaluators are ASIP (Assessing Structure Ignition Potential) trained, and landscape recommendations follow the Eagle County Wildfire Collaboration guidance on defensible space. Click here to learn more: Mitigation & Wildfire Protection
Unfortunately, at this time, rebate funds are only available for existing landscapes, so a full evaluation is not necessary for a new build. If you would like help ensuring that your new build uses water as efficiently as possible, email beyondlawn@eccdistrict.org.
